Editorial Reviews

So much has how been said and written about the life and career of Michael Jackson that it has become almost impossible to disentangle the man from the myth. This book is the fruit of over 30 years of research and hundreds of exclusive interviews with a remarkable level of access to the very closest circles of the Jackson family - including Michael himself. Cutting through tabloid rumours, J. Randy Taraborrelli traces the real story behind Michael Jackson, from his drilling as a child star through the blooming of his talent to his ever-changing personal appearance and bizarre publicity stunts. This major biography includes the behind-the-scenes story to many of the landmarks in Jackson's life: his legal and commercial battles, his marriages to Lisa Marie Presley and Debbie Rowe, his passions and addictions, his children. Objective and revealing, it carries the hallmarks of all of Taraborrelli's best-sellers: impeccable research, brilliant storytelling and definitive documentation.

Some parts interesting, much disappointment

The first half of the book regarding the start of the Jackson 5 and the descriptions of the various contracts and the Motown days were very informative. In writing about the first 20-25 years of Michael Jackson's life, it seemed that the author wrote a thoughtful and informative book. It seemed to be free of opinion and speculation.

But in writing about the rest of Michaels's life it felt like the author turned to a more "tabloid" approach. The author did not have much access to his subject so began to use the gossip and rumours as part of the book. The author also injects so much of his own opinon that the reader begins to doubt the credibility of the writer. Many things can be disputed just by going out and reading about MJ's life from other sources including many who worked closely with him in the latter part of his career.

Unfortunately, J Randy TRaborrelli has now come to be viewed as an "expert" on Michael Jackson. He continues to imbue his reporting with rumor and conjecture and not facts. I don't care to read or hear his opinion. I want to know more about the amazing legacy that Michael Jackson contributed to the world. This book is a big disappointment. Do not purchase it.

Michael Jackson: The Magic, the Madness, The Whole Story

After searching for a honest and complete Biography of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, I thought this might be it. Wrong, after reading only a few pages, I was stricken with the Fact that this writer was heavily relying on Gossip, Fiction, tabloid magazines and simply false information provided by some people who did not have the best interest at heart. Tarraborelli calls himself a friend of the family, nothing could be further from the truth. The Author never shows one ounce of sympathy for his subject. This book should be boycotted simply because it is filled with vicous poisoning material. If you are looking for the truth, you wont find it here, I suggest take a look at Adrian Grant's 'A Visual Documentary', this is straightforward, honest portayal. One Star is even to much for this piece of garbage, simply as that. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!

This Is A Tabloid in Sheep's Clothing DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME

I will not spend much time or waste many words talking about this book. I hear Michael's sweet voice saying "Don't waste your money" and "Don't make them rich" whenever he spoke about tabloids and tabloid style authors, and yellow journalists. Taraborrelli was no friend to Michael. He appears to be a jealous voyer. In the end, after Michael died, in the newly revised edition that I read in summer of 2009 AUTHOR STATES HE HAD NOT SEEN MICHAEL FOR FOUR YEARS SINCE THE DAY OF MICHAEL'S ACQUITTAL. What kind of friend is that? You already know the truth about Michael and Michael's legacy is carved in history. Don't waste time or money. Michael would want you to give the money to someone who really needs it, not an author who will ride Michael's coat-tails for life, putting out new editions of the same trash. There is no market for this book for those who love Michael. I hope I have spared you some heartache and please avoid this book. Fans of Michael trust each other, as we trust Michael. Thank you for listening.

Great Book

I just started reading this book and I can't put it down. I read MJ's Moonwalk first and I am comparing these facts to the book in his own words. So far so good. I can't wait to finish this book. If you are an MJ fan, this book is a great read and you will definitely enjoy it and walk away as if you knew him better as well as learn about the awful suffering he had to deal with through his short life. So sad!
